Chaussé d'Antin

The area where the Chaussée-d’Antin neighbourhood now stands was once a collection of marshy land that had to be raised to make it habitable. They later aroused the covetousness of many prestigious architects who urbanised these lands until they became one of the most sought-after places in the capital, notably by the Duke of Antin who later gave it his name. At the end of the 19th century, after the completion of Boulevard Haussmann, this formerly residential area was transformed into a crossroads of communication routes where luxury department stores transformed the landscape once and for all.
